Here is the before picture:
I had already started sanding the front of the doors when I realized that I forgot to take the before pictures, so pretend you don't see that. |
This cabinet belongs to a client. Before I get into the details, this is the short story on how she aquired this lovely piece. One day she was driving down her street, or maybe she was walking her dogs, or something like that when she came across a garage sale. She saw this piece and immediately like it and wanted it, so she asked the owners how much they wanted for it and their price was incredibly high so she said forget it. Later that evening she was driving by or walking and guess what she saw!?! The same cabinet that had the high price tag sitting on the curb with a free sign!?!
I love stories like that.
Anyways, she found me and knew she wanted it custom painted for her sons room which she was going to do a nautical theme in. We went back and forth trying to come up with colors that wouldn't be to little kidish so that it would be a piece that would last.
She knew she wanted it blue, but at the same time she wanted it to be a piece that she could blend into more than one theme and she also thought that her son would one day come to not like the plain blue. So we decided to paint it blue, then white on top and sand it down so you could see the blue coming through.
I thought this would be an easy project, time consuming yes, but still easy. Man oh man was I wrong about that!!! I think I reprinted this cabinet about 5 times and if it wasn't an issue with the paint it was an issue with sanding it...it felt like it was never going to end.
But it finally did, and I must say that after 2 months of screw ups, it turned out quite well!
Cheers,
Shannon
